The Maples NDP

Mintu Sandhu was first elected as the NDP MLA for The Maples in 2019.

Mintu arrived in Canada as a teenager and has been a resident of The Maples for 34 years, living there with his wife and raising their three children. Before entering the political arena, he made his way to a leadership position within one of Winnipeg's largest taxicab companies. In 2019, Mintu was elected to the Legislative Assembly. His tenure has been marked by diligent efforts to enhance the Manitoba Provincial Nominee Program (MPNP) and promote family reunification. He has also worked to facilitate the employment of internationally trained nurses in Manitoba and ensured wage protection for taxi drivers during the COVID-19 pandemic. Mintu has been a staunch advocate for workers and new Canadians, standing alongside families who lost loved ones during a COVID-19 outbreak at the Maples Personal Care Home. In 2023, he successfully passed a private member's bill that addresses the needs of delivery personnel by providing them with access to restrooms, a necessity that became evident during the pandemic.
