Mintu Sandhu immigrated to Canada as a teenager and has lived in The Maples for 30 years. He worked his way up to a leadership position at one of Winnipeg’s largest taxicab companies and helped to modernize the industry and create good jobs by serving on the provincial Motor Transport Board.
Mintu was first elected in 2019 and served as the NDP’s Critic for the Manitoba Public Insurance Corporation. In the Legislature, Mintu fought back against PC increases to auto insurance, Hydro and tuition. He pushed to create good jobs for new Canadians by expanding the provincial nominee program, fast track accreditation for international nurses and helped taxi drivers receive provincial wage protection programs during the pandemic.
As an MLA, Mintu advocated for families whose loved ones died in a tragic COVID-19 outbreak at the Maples Personal Care Home.
He and his wife Inderjiit have three children.
