Malaya Marcelino was first elected as the NDP MLA for Notre Dame in 2019.

Malaya immigrated from the Philippines as a child with her family, who have been strong voices for improving the lives of newcomers.

Prior to becoming an MLA, Malaya was a stay at home mom and worked part-time as a business writer and researcher for a Manitoba agribusiness firm.

She and her husband live in Winnipeg’s West End neighbourhood with their two young children.
