Tracy Schmidt was elected as the MLA for Rossmere in 2023. She is a lawyer with a background in labour and employment law.
She was sworn in as the Minister of Environment and Climate Change and Minister responsible for Efficiency Manitoba on October 18, 2023. Minister Schmidt has been appointed to multiple boards and committees including Treasury Board, the Healthy Child Committee of Cabinet, Public Sector Compensation Committee, Community Economic Development Committee, Legislative Review Committee and serves as a member of Cabinet.
She is recognized for her leadership in the province of Manitoba’s first Electric Vehicle rebate program launched in 2024 as well as in her support for the establishment of a conservation area in the Seal River Watershed.
Prior to becoming an MLA, Schmidt worked as a labour relations officer for the Winnipeg Association of Public Services Officers. She also spent a decade working for Canada Post, where she was an active union member. Schmidt holds a bachelor’s degree in sociology and criminal justice from the University of Winnipeg and a law degree from the University of Manitoba. She has held board positions with the Manitoba Association for Rights and Liberties and the Community Unemployed Help Centre.
Schmidt is a life-long resident of Fraser’s Grove where she lives with her three children.
