MLA Diljeet Brar Nominated as NDP Candidate for Burrows

The Manitoba NDP nominated MLA Diljeet Brar to represent Burrows families in the next provincial election.

“Families in Burrows are facing tough choices in this cost-of-living crisis. Everything from gas and groceries to rent and Hydro bills is going up—and the PCs are leaving the working people of Burrows behind,” said Brar. “The NDP and I are ready to form a government that works for our community on the issues they care about like raising the minimum wage, improving immigration services or fixing health care. We’re ready to lead Manitoba forward.”

As the NDP’s critic for Agriculture, Diiljeet Brar has used his agri-food expertise to build relationships with producers across the province. He understands the value Manitoba farmers, cattle producers and processors play in keeping food accessible and affordable for Burrows families. He also knows PC choices have made life harder for producers and more expensive for families.

This spring Diljeet had his first bill, the Turban Day Act, pass in the Legislature. The bill celebrates the cultural and spiritual significance of the turban and sets aside April 13th as a day to reflect on the contributions of Sikh people to Manitoba and the importance of standing against racism or intolerance.

“Diljeet is passionate about representing his community and celebrating the diversity that makes our province so special,” said Wab Kinew. “His enthusiasm for connecting with others means he can relate to all Manitobans, from the cattle producer in Roblin to the grocery store clerk in northwest Winnipeg. Alongside DIljeet, I’m fighting to win the next election so we can make life better for families in Burrow and across the province.”
