Jim Maloway Nominated as NDP Candidate for Elmwood

January 10, 2022,

Treaty 1 and Dakota Territory, Homeland of the Métis Nation, Winnipeg, MB – Manitoba NDP MLA Jim Maloway was nominated as the New Democrats’ candidate for the Elmwood constituency today.

As the NDP caucus’ longest-serving MLA, Jim Maloway has been a strong representative for the constituents of Elmwood either as MLA or Member of Parliament since 1986. Jim vigorously opposed the PC government’s decision to close the Concordia Emergency Room and cut community health care services. He was proud to spearhead the Keep Concordia ER Open sign and survey campaign, and advocate for a new Louise Bridge.

Jim is a successful small business owner who is passionate about protecting consumer’s rights as the NDP Official Opposition’s Critic for Consumer Protection. He has been championing right-to-repair legislation for our caucus, and cares deeply about ensuring that life is affordable for Manitobans.

If re-elected as the MLA for Elmwood, Jim will continue to fight to ensure jobs remain in our community and to protect public services, like health care, education, and Manitoba Hydro.

Manitoba NDP Leader, Wab Kinew said: “Jim is one of the Manitoba NDP’s longest serving MLA’s, and has invaluable knowledge and political expertise that our caucus benefits from. He is a great example of the success that can be derived from grassroots campaigning and real community connections. Jim has been a strong advocate for the constituents of Elmwood, and an undeniable expert on the issues of consumer protection and affordability, and I know he will continue to do so as we work together to build a better Manitoba, for everyone.”
