Fort Richmond NDP

Jennifer’s story is one of courage, resilience, and the power of giving back. She arrived in Canada as an international student, determined to build a brighter future. At the University of Manitoba, she earned her Master of Science degree in Kinesiology (Research about the health and well-being of older adults) — but her greatest achievements extend far beyond the classroom.

Driven by a passion for community service, Jennifer stepped up as an elected school trustee and Vice-Chair of the Winnipeg School Division Board, where she worked tirelessly to support families and strengthen our schools. She has also contributed her time and expertise to vital organizations, including Family Dynamics, CancerCare Manitoba’s Newcomer Advisory Committee, and the Asian Heritage Society.

Jennifer’s dedication and leadership have been recognized across Canada. In 2021, she was honoured as one of only four recipients of the Immigrant Women of Inspiration Award — a testament to her unwavering commitment to making a difference.

Today, Jennifer proudly serves as the MLA for Fort Richmond, where she continues to break barriers and inspire others. She made history as the first Chinese-Canadian elected to the Manitoba Legislature and recently championed a bill to officially recognize May as Asian Heritage Month — a milestone that celebrates diversity and strengthens community pride for generations to come.

As a first-generation immigrant and a woman of colour, Jennifer knows the challenges of building a new life in a new country. She understands the importance of creating a province where every voice is heard and every person belongs. Her story reminds us that no dream is too big and no obstacle too great when we work together and lift each other up.

Jennifer’s journey is proof that with determination, compassion, and a willingness to serve, we can all create positive change. So let her story inspire you: get involved, speak up for what you believe in, and help build a stronger, more inclusive community. Together, we can make a difference — and it starts with each of us, right here, right no
