Matt Wiebe

Born and raised in northeast Winnipeg, Matt was first elected as MLA for Concordia in 2010 and re-elected in 2011 and 2016.

Matt entered politics through his work as an active community volunteer. Matt is a past board member of the Elmwood Community Resource Centre, which provides adult literacy training, job training and supports for newcomers. Matt served as the first volunteer chair of the Communities That Care initiative, which helped at-risk youth graduate from high school and addressed issues like violence and substance abuse.

Matt has also volunteered with the Elmwood/East Kildonan Residents Advisory Committee, Happy Days on Henderson, Take Pride Elmwood, the Beautify Elmwood Community Committee and the River East Neighbourhood Network.

Recently, Matt has been dedicated to working with local residents advocating against the closure of the emergency room at the Concordia Hospital. Matt continues to support this grassroots initiative and to advocate for access to diverse health and mental health resources for the people of northeast Winnipeg.

In March 2019 Matt became the Deputy House Leader of the Official Opposition as well as the Critic for Education and Training and Critic for Finance. He served three years as the Chair of the Public Accounts Committee and holds a BA in Economics and a MasterÕs in Public Administration from the University of Manitoba.

Matt and his wife, Kaila, and their children, Anna and Noah, make their home in Valley Gardens.
