- Critic for Education
Nello Altomare is a lifelong resident of Transcona who believes that our community deserves a strong voice in the Manitoba legislature to fight against the Conservative cuts to the Concordia Hospital ER, and against the cancellation of projects like the expansion of Park Manor Personal Care Home.
Nello is a recently retired teacher and principal within the River East Transcona School Division. Nello and his wife are the parents of two children. He and his family are members and volunteers at Transcona Memorial United Church.
Born in Winnipeg, Nello is the son of Italian immigrants who came to Canada seeking a better life. Nello will advocate for the residents of Transcona to ensure high quality, accessible health care and better support for our kids in school and good jobs within our community. A graduate of Transcona Collegiate, Nello earned his Bachelor of Education in 1986 and Bachelor of Arts in 1989 at the University of Winnipeg. In 1998 he did post-graduate studies in Educational Administration at the University of Manitoba. During his career as a teacher and principal, Nello worked in several area schools, including John W. Gunn, Harold Hatcher, and Arthur Day. He demonstrated during his career his keen ability to work with a team to create and sustain a safe, nurturing and stimulating learning and working environment for all stakeholders in education.
Nello has also has been a volunteer and coach with sports such as badminton, basketball, volleyball and indoor soccer. He is a big supporter of his children’s teams at Park City West, East End and Southside Community Clubs.
