NDP Condemns Pallister for Cutting 500 Nurses
Winnipeg, MB—NDP Leader Wab Kinew condemned Premier Brian Pallister today for cutting more than 500 nurses across Manitoba, leaving the province’s health care system in a state of crisis.
“Pallister’s health care cuts and ER closures have created a dangerous situation for Manitoba nurses and patients,” said Kinew. “Nurses are stressed out, overworked and understaffed. In the last two years we heard from countless nurses who say their patients are at risk because of chronic understaffing and now we know why—Brian Pallister fired more than 500 nurses and left our health care system to fall apart.”
According to the Canadian Institute for Health Information’s recent report there are more than 500 fewer nurses working in Manitoba from 2017 to 2018.
“We need more nurses, not less. Pallister’s cuts are taking us in the wrong direction and it’s hurting patients and their families,” said Kinew.
