Joe is a long time senior civil servant, with many years of experience, who has worked in several government departments. He is currently working for Manitoba Justice in the Corporate Management branch of the Courts Division.
Joe has extensive experience and involvement with a variety of community organizations, including Board membership and fundraising. He is currently a Board member with the Assiniboia West Recreation Association, which is dedicated to providing an open, safe and inclusive space for all people in the community.
Joe has been a Board member with the Grace Hospital's Patient Family Advisory Council since 2016. The board helps by working with the hospital and consulting with patients to improve experiences in the healthcare system. As a Board member, Joe has brought his skill and Indigenous perspective to speak for the community and for patients.
Joe knows Brian Pallister's cuts to the healthcare system and decision to close emergency rooms is making things harder and harder for patients and frontline workers, both at the Grace Hospital and other hospitals around Winnipeg. He knows that we need to be investing in healthcare to bring down wait-times, not reducing services and forcing patients to travel farther to get the care that they need.
Joe is also an active member with the St. James-Assiniboia Optimist Club, which helps to fundraise for youth to pursue a higher education, and attend sport and cultural camps. He is also an honourary Peacekeeper with the United Nations Winnipeg Peacekeepers. This organization helps to preserve the memory and deeds of Canadians who served and lost their lives while deployed on United Nations peacekeeping missions.
Joe has helped to fundraise for numerous organizations, like the Heart and Stroke Foundation, the Canadian Red Cross, Diabetes Canada, the ALS Society of Canada, and the Salvation Army through their Kettle Drives. Joe has also volunteered at Siloam Mission in Winnipeg.
Joe is currently completing his degree at the University of Manitoba and was recognized in 2018 when he received the Emerging Leader Award.
In his spare time, Joe likes to coach both summer and winter sports in Assiniboia. Joe and his family live in West Winnipeg and love their community.
