Help Small Businesses During COVID-19

Today, the Manitoba NDP is calling on the provincial government to help small and medium sized businesses during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Small businesses are the heart of our community and a key part of our economy. They deserve help and targeted supports so they can continue to pay their employees and remain open once isolation orders have lifted.

The Manitoba NDP is calling on the provincial government to:

  • Provide grants and interest-free loans to small and medium sized businesses facing cash flow issues because of reduced revenue;

  • Provide a 75% wage subsidy for workers so businesses can continue payroll;

  • Change lease and mortgage rules to allow businesses to defer payments for rent, mortage, equipment and utilities as well as taxes; and

  • Extend supports for self-employed Manitobans struggling to maintain income.

"Now is the time to support entrepreneurs and their employees," said NDP Leader Wab Kinew. "Under our proposed plan small businesses would have more help, while being able to plan ahead for economic uncertainty and tightening credit conditions."
